Meet the Team

Caleb Nielsen
Founder

Caleb grew up surrounded by the power of music. It served as a connection with his friends, brothers, parents, and church community. These melodies continued to move through him as he enlisted in the Marine Corps and deployed to Iraq where he received the nickname, “Jukebox”.

Since separating from the Marines in 2010, the arts continue to connect Caleb with his community - whether by music, painting miniatures at the local hobby shop, or taking writing classes with local veterans. It is this very connection he hopes others will find as well.

Caleb’s passions for creating and gathering others have inspired him to create Healing Colors & Sounds. Isolation, depression, and perceived burdensomeness are some of the most common precursors to suicide*, a tragically common cause of death that continues to grow**. By providing space and opportunities for people to create and share, Caleb intends to change the statistics.

Sarah Nielsen
Operations Director

Sarah’s vision for what is possible is undeniable. Since childhood, she has been able to assess space, objects, colors, and textures, and form them into whatever her mind could conceive. Through college and adulthood she’s taken this ability into the world of words by way of poetry.

It helps her process and helps her to feel alive. The act of sharing her writing reminds herself to be proud of who she’s become and the moments she’s lived through. As a secondary hope - it might inspire others, just as many poets have inspired herself.

She is a project manager by day and a house decorator by night. In the slim chance she can rip herself away from work or the abyss of modern day distractions (she sees you, video games) she enjoys modeling, watering her 87 house plants, trashy reality tv shows, short-lived art escapades, and pretending to do her physical therapy exercises, and oh - writing poetry.
